Golf
Golf, in particular, with the greens of Lugano-Magliaso, Ascona and Losone, plays an important role in the region.
The Lugano Golf Club, with its 18 holes, the most ancient club in Italian speaking Switzerland, was founded in 1923 and represents the “temple” of golf architecture. Located at only 10 minutes from the city of Lugano, near the airport, this golf club is an obligatory stop for every golf player looking for a varied course, lush nature and a postcard landscape with a great welcome at the Club House.
Originally designed by the architect Donald Harradine it unwinds on rather level ground, among beech woods, oaks, pines, rhododendrons and azaleas. In 1992, under the direction of architect Cabell B. Robinson, important changes were made. The course is considered highly technical and challenging because of the constant presence of water obstacles and narrow fairways, often delimited by lush vegetation and by the Magliasina river that must be crossed or coasted along in up to 8 different occasions.
The golf course alternates long holes, suitable for a powerful sort of play and shorter holes that require more accurate shots. The greens are always well protected by natural or artificial obstacles.
The 18-hole golf course of Gerre Losone designed by the Ticinese architect Peter Harradine, unwinds among numerous streams, ponds and hills testing the skill and talent of the golf player.
The Golf Club Patriziale founded in 1926, is located in Ascona; this is another top level golf course that balances tradition and innovation and which in 1999 made it to the first position in the classification of the best golf courses in Switzerland. The level green has an extremely good technical level that is at once challenging and exciting, both for champions and beginners.
At less than an hour away from our Hotel, there are many other offerings for the fans of this sport. In nearby Italy, moreover, just beyond the Swiss border there are more than twenty golf courses. Of these, five have a special agreement with our Hotel and thus offer regular promotions to our guests: Carimate, Monticello, Varese, Golf dei Laghi, Le Robinie.
